Hello, I'm Michael Dorn. Welcome to the online doorstep of Safe Havens International. Whether you found us by searching on the web for school safety information or you have attended one of our training sessions, you will find new and helpful information here. Since we are an IRS approved non-profit school safety center, one of our main goals is to provide you with free resources and information that you can use immediately to make your schools safer.

Be sure to sign up for our free monthly e-newsletter on the right-hand side of this page. The first edition will be released in August of 2006, and each issue will feature articles, school safety features and monthly columns such as "Hazard of the Month" and "Drug Paraphernalia of the Month" photos to help you learn to identify these types of risks in your schools.

Whether you are planning on bringing us in for training, purchasing our products, or are just interested in learning more about school safety, our goal is to help you improve safety and morale in your school and community by showing you how you can internalize your local expertise instead of relying on costly private consultants. Several tools on our Free Resources page can help you do this, including our free downloadable Tactical Site Survey Template that you can use to conduct a professional and in-depth version of what is commonly referred to as a "hazard-hunt."

While many consulting firms charge large amounts for this service (in one case $15,000 per school building per year), with proper training and a Site Survey form like the one available on our resources page you can carry out this process for free year after year with your own staff, resulting in more benefit for your organization because of the increased internalization of a "culture of safety" that will result from using local experts and staff members that work in your facility every day.
