Mind Your Business – Business Continuity Planning for Schools
Can be presented by Dr. Sonayia Shepherd

It is now generally recognized that Business Continuity Planning is a vital activity. However, the creation of (and maintenance of) a sound business continuity plan, is a complex undertaking, involving a series of critical steps. Prior to creation of the plan itself, it is essential to consider the potential impacts of disaster and to understand the underlying risk not only impacting physical infrastructure but information systems as well: these are the foundations upon which a sound business continuity plan should be built. This course will teach techniques to design a sound business continuity plan including guidance through the business impact analysis or BIA and risk analysis, as well as links to tools/services to help you create, maintain and audit the plan itself. This session will use practical team based exercise scenarios to reinforce learning and walk participants through the decision making process of returning the school environment to a “new normal” following a disaster. Whether you are entirely new to business continuity or whether you already have a proven and established plan, Safe Havens will show you and ultimately improve your planning efforts.

Intended audiences:

  • School administrators
  • School business officials
  • School technology professionals
  • Business continuity planning team members
  • School board members and elected officials
