Whether or not you realize it, you have probably seen Chris Dorn before. With hundreds of thousands of views on the Internet and countless news, talk show and even motion picture appearances, Chris’ concealed weapons demonstrations have raised awareness about the problem of weapons in our schools for the past 15 years. His concealed weapons demonstration became a viral video before the term even existed.
Chris has presented at local, state, national and international conferences to audiences from around the world that include school staff, law enforcement, emergency management, youth psychology professionals and elected officials. He has presented for audiences at the Oklahoma Governor’s Mansion, the FEMA Emergency Management Institute, Vietnam National University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Montana, the Kansas Highway Patrol Academy, the International Association of Chiefs of Police annual conference, state and national emergency management conferences and numerous other settings. He has served as a trainer for FEMA, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Israeli National Police and many other organizations.
Chris has been featured in a number of training videos which are in use by the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, FEMA, the Israeli Police and more than 75,000 school systems and police agencies in more than 30 countries. As Executive Producer of the Safe Havens Video department, he has led the creation of dozens of custom school safety video projects for school districts and state departments of education around the country. His most recent work has won Telly and W3 Awards for quality of production as well as low cost production techniques.
Chris’ areas of expertise include safety and emergency preparedness in schools,
student drug abuse, weapons concealment and detection, school terrorism as well the production of training tools that help staff prepare to deal with the stress of an actual crisis. Chris has also served as an analyst for Jane’s, the British defense, intelligence and public safety publisher.
The co-author of five books on school safety, Chris Dorn has captivated audiences from Virginia to Vietnam and his work has taken him to Bolivia, Mexico, Canada the U.K, South Africa France, the Netherlands and Vietnam. His book, Innocent Targets – When Terrorism Comes to School, is in use by emergency management, police and homeland security agencies in all 50 states as well as several other countries. Chris has been featured on numerous news programs including Good Morning America, Larry King Live, Law Enforcement Television Network and ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings.
In addition to his numerous recognitions and awards, Chris has a dual B.S. in International Affairs and Modern Languages (French) from the Georgia Institute of Technology as well as a Certificate in Marketing from the College of Management at Georgia Tech. He was the youngest applicant to be certified as a P.O.S.T. Certified Guest Instructor at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) in Forsyth, Georgia.
